For the latest edition of A Global Street Art Story, Station 16 Gallery is excited to announce that Sobekcis is representing Serbia. Sobek and Kcis, twins who form the artist duo, use a combination of the figurative and abstract to create dramatic street art that is quickly gaining an international following.
While the idea of twins forming an artist group is not necessarily new, it is a rarity. Sobek and Kcis each emerged into the world of graffiti individually by creating their own tags; however, they soon began to work together. The twenty-two year olds began in 2005/2006 after noticing the graffiti in their neighborhood. What began as a hobby developed into "the driving force for our lives: a source of income, a way to see the world, a constant source of experiences," describe the brothers.
The outcome is an organic fusion of each of their styles. The collaboration process changes with each project, as they are aware of their respective strengths and weaknesses. While many do not see the differences in the way each one works, "there is a vast difference in the way we approach the same problem. We have learned to synthesize our approaches to build a single image," says Sobekcis. The art of Sobekcis is primarily abstract while still combining figurative elements, geometric designs, and typography to create unique designs.
Sobekcis is also a part of two different crews: Heavy Artillery, an international group that they joined 4 years ago, and VAR, a smaller crew oriented around Serbian writers. Having already gained substantial recognition, and being referred to as the "Os Gemeos of the Balkans," we cannot wait to see what the future holds for Sobekcis.

Pour la dernière édition de A Global Street Art Story, la galerie Station 16 est heureuse d'annoncer quec’est le collectif Sobekcis qui représentera la Serbie. Sobek et Kcis, qui forment le duo d’artistes, combinent harmonieusement figuration et abstraction pour créer des pièces uniques qui atteignent rapidement une visibilité internationale.
Bien que le concept de jumeaux formant un groupe d’artistes ne soit pas nouveau, c’est tout au moins un phénomène peu commun. Sobek et Kcis ont émergé dans le monde du graffiti de façon individuelle, par le biais de la création de leurs propres tags. Ils ont néanmoins commencé à travailler ensemble rapidement. Ils ont débuté leur partenariat en 2005-2006 après avoir remarqué la présence de graffitis dans leur quartier. Ce qui était au départ un hobby est ensuite devenu « la motivation d’une vie, une source des revenus, une façon de voir le monde ainsi qu’une source constante d'expériences nouvelles, » mentionnent les frères.
Le résultat de leur travail collectif s’incarne en la fusion organique de leur style respectif. Leur processus collaboratif diffère dans chaque projet, parce qu’ils reconnaissent leurs forces et leurs faiblesses respectives. Bien que beaucoup de personnes ne distinguent pas les éléments différenciant le style de chaque frère, il y a, selon eux, une grande différence dans la façon dont ils abordent le même problème. « Nous avons appris à synthétiser nos approches pour former une seule image fluide, » dit Sobekcis. L’art de ce duo se veut principalement abstrait, mais celui-ci y combine des éléments figuratifs, du dessin géométrique et de la typographie, dans le but de créer des designs uniques.
Sobekcis fait également partie de deux troupes autres: Heavy Artillery, un groupe international que les jumeaux ont rejoint il y a 4 ans, et VAR, une petite équipe dont la pratique gravite autour d’écrivains serbes. Le duo Sobekcis, étant surnommé le « Os Gêmeos des Balkans », a déjà acquis une reconnaissance notable et on est impatient de voir ce que l’avenir réserve à cette paire d’artistes.
