About Underworld

The Underworld store was founded on October 27, 1995 in a small space located at the intersection of Millen and Henri-Bourassa streets in the Ahuntsic district as a music and skateboard store. The store quickly became the reference in underground music. With a showroom located in its back room, it hosted bands such as Strung Out, Blink 182, Anti-Flag, MxPx, etc.

In the spring of 2000, Underworld opened a second store on Ste-Catherine Street, and a few years later, a cross-Canada skate tour called Under Attack was created.

This tour then became one of the first reality TV shows with 40 episodes aired on Musique Plus. In 2004, Underworld reopened a performance space in its new downtown location. That's when Cabaret Underworld was born, where more than 3,000 shows of all kinds took place until January 2016.

For 25 years, Alex Bastide, the former owner of the Underworld store has kept posters, clothes, skateboards and many artifacts related to the Montreal, Canadian, and American skate and music scene.

"I started Underworld because I am passionate about skateboarding and underground music. In Montreal, in the mid-90s, there was a big gap to fill. It's a huge honour to be able to share my adventure and exhibit my collection related to the wonderful world of skateboarding, punk and hip-hop music and catering. The Pop-Up Museum at Underworld is a unique chance to relive memorable moments and get together to discuss a memorable era. Expect many surprises, including performances from the Montreal punk scene,"

A Propos d'Alex Bastide
